Shivering Songs Festival - January 29-30 in Fredericton, NB Annouce David Myles & Grant Lawrence are added to the line-up!

Forward Music Update...11/01/11

Shivering Songs
Grant Lawrence and David Myles added to the lineup of artists
---
---
We're very excited to announce some great new additions to the Shivering Songs festival:

David Myles, a Fredericton hometown hero, is currently touring on his 4th album Turn Time Off, which was produced by Joel Plaskett and recently picked up two Nova Scotia Music Awards. David will be hosting the Saturday afternoon songwriters circle at Wilmot Church, entertaining folks with hisperfectly-timed comedic delivery and breaking hearts with his beautiful songs.

Grant Lawrence, author/broadcaster/musician, will also join the Saturday afternoon songwriters circle as a storyteller. Adventures in Solitude, his first novel, was just recently released and is a collection of amazingly-digestible Western Canadian history lessons tied with hilarious anecdotes. Grant will be captivating the audience with stories of the sunshine coast and will bring an interesting twist to the format of the song-circle.

For years, the gregarious and encyclopedic Lawrence has hosted the top-rated CBC Radio 3 Podcast with Grant Lawrence, a weekly showcase of Canadian independent music. Grant also hosts Grant Lawrence Live, a live and interactive daily program on CBC Radio 3′s popular web radio station, also airing on Sirius 86. Grant can be heard throughout the week on various CBC Radio One programs such as DNTO, Spark,All Points West, On The Coast and has been a frequent past contributor to Q and Sounds Like Canada. Grant also hosts many major music events, such as the Polaris Music Prize Gala, the Western Canadian Music Awards and various festivals around North America, and conducts music industry seminars and keynote addresses on music and media related topics.

“By turns hilarious, terrifying, profound and strange, Adventures in Solitude is the great lost Canadian adventure story; Swiss Family Robinson as if rendered by Ken Kesey in his youth, a kind of Lord of the Flies through a fog of BC chronic.” - Dave Bidini, author of On A Cold Road, and Tropic of Hockey.

The addition of David Myles and Grant Lawrence to the festival will complete the lineup for 2011 and bring booking to a close. The Shivering Songs festival will run January 29-30 in Fredericton, NB at Wilmot United Church, the Capital Bar and Snooty Fox:

Songwriters Circle: Saturday, 3pm-5pm @ Wilmot United Church = David Myles + Snailhouse + Grant Lawrence + Tim Walker + Gianna Lauren

ECMA E-News - SpinCount Featured Artist of the Week - DAVID MYLES

SPINCOUNT ARTIST OF THE WEEK: DAVID MYLES

SpinCount is thrilled to present David Myles as our first ECMA Artist of the Week for 2011. David's latest CD Turn Time Off won 2 Nova Scotia Music Week Awards, "Male Artist Recording of the Year" and "Folk Artist/Group Recording of the Year" this past November, and he was also nominated for the Bell Aliant Entertainer of the Year. "Out of Love" is the second single off the album.

Setting out to make his fourth album, Turn Time Off, David Myles knew he was ready to try something a little different. His earlier releases, Things Have Changed (2006) and On The Line (2008) had already established his reputation as a versatile, genre-bending artist with a knack for effortlessly straddling jazz, blues, folk and pop styles. Produced by acclaimed Nova Scotia musician Joel Plaskett, Turn Time Off is a smooth, soul-infused pop record that pays tribute to crooners and lovers alike.

A warm, easy performer, Myles brings his audiences to their feet wherever he plays. His unabashed joy at being on stage is infectious, and his enthusiasm, along with a tendency to regale his audiences with humorous anecdotes, has made him a favorite wherever he plays. Whether it’s the Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill, or the 2010 Winter Olympics, Myles is increasingly in-demand on the Canadian live music scene.

2011 is sure to be a busy year for David, as he kicks off the Vinyl Café tour in Maine next month. For more information and tour dates, please visit www.davidmyles.com

Battle to Warped Tour II

The Vans Warped Tour, Music Nova Scotia, and Halifax Pop Explosion present Battle to Warped Tour II

Win Three Dates on the World’s Largest Touring Festival

December 16, 2010 Halifax, Nova Scotia – Music Nova Scotia and the Halifax Pop Explosion are thrilled to present an opportunity for one band to perform in front of tens of thousands of screaming fans on The Vans Warped Tour 2011. For the second year in a row, Battle to Warped Tour will give 15 bands the chance to claim one victory: three dates on the world’s largest touring festival. For Battle to Warped Tour II, the grand prize ante has been upped with the addition of a showcase at Halifax Pop Explosion 2011 and a showcase at Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week 2011.

“Battle to Warped Tour 2 is a perfect example of the work Music Nova Scotia does to build relationships that result in significant opportunities for our members,” says Scott Long, Executive Director for Music Nova Scotia. “Jonny Stevens and I met the tour’s founder Kevin Lyman at Canadian Music Week in 2009 and here we are presenting the battle for a second year in a row. It is not only a testament to the work that is done on behalf of Music Nova Scotia members but it is more importantly a testament to the artistic quality and professionalism of the Music Nova Scotia members. To have the largest touring and most recognizable brand name festival in the world seek out an artist from Nova Scotia is a good sign that we can roll with the best in the world.”

Members of Music Nova Scotia are encouraged to submit to Battle to Warped Tour II, which takes place at The Seahorse Tavern and consists of three preliminary rounds and one final round. For each battle, a diverse panel of influential industry professionals will select a finalist to move onto the last round, where three finalists and two wildcards will compete for the grand prize. The preliminary rounds take place on January 18, January 25, February 1, and the final battle will be on February 8.

“Halifax Pop Explosion Association is thrilled to be able to help bring this amazing opportunity to our scene and help shine the spotlight on our community,” says Jonny Stevens, Executive Director for Halifax Pop Explosion. “We are all music fans and grew up playing in bands so to be able to give a shot to a band that wasn't available to us years ago is beyond exciting.”

All current members of Music Nova Scotia are eligible to submit for this opportunity and those considered hardcore, post-hardcore, pop punk, metalcore., hip hop, indie rock, garage, rockabilly, ska and other "youth" based musical acts are highly encouraged to submit.
