Battle to Warped Tour II

The Vans Warped Tour, Music Nova Scotia, and Halifax Pop Explosion present Battle to Warped Tour II

Win Three Dates on the World’s Largest Touring Festival

December 16, 2010 Halifax, Nova Scotia – Music Nova Scotia and the Halifax Pop Explosion are thrilled to present an opportunity for one band to perform in front of tens of thousands of screaming fans on The Vans Warped Tour 2011. For the second year in a row, Battle to Warped Tour will give 15 bands the chance to claim one victory: three dates on the world’s largest touring festival. For Battle to Warped Tour II, the grand prize ante has been upped with the addition of a showcase at Halifax Pop Explosion 2011 and a showcase at Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week 2011.

“Battle to Warped Tour 2 is a perfect example of the work Music Nova Scotia does to build relationships that result in significant opportunities for our members,” says Scott Long, Executive Director for Music Nova Scotia. “Jonny Stevens and I met the tour’s founder Kevin Lyman at Canadian Music Week in 2009 and here we are presenting the battle for a second year in a row. It is not only a testament to the work that is done on behalf of Music Nova Scotia members but it is more importantly a testament to the artistic quality and professionalism of the Music Nova Scotia members. To have the largest touring and most recognizable brand name festival in the world seek out an artist from Nova Scotia is a good sign that we can roll with the best in the world.”

Members of Music Nova Scotia are encouraged to submit to Battle to Warped Tour II, which takes place at The Seahorse Tavern and consists of three preliminary rounds and one final round. For each battle, a diverse panel of influential industry professionals will select a finalist to move onto the last round, where three finalists and two wildcards will compete for the grand prize. The preliminary rounds take place on January 18, January 25, February 1, and the final battle will be on February 8.

“Halifax Pop Explosion Association is thrilled to be able to help bring this amazing opportunity to our scene and help shine the spotlight on our community,” says Jonny Stevens, Executive Director for Halifax Pop Explosion. “We are all music fans and grew up playing in bands so to be able to give a shot to a band that wasn't available to us years ago is beyond exciting.”

All current members of Music Nova Scotia are eligible to submit for this opportunity and those considered hardcore, post-hardcore, pop punk, metalcore., hip hop, indie rock, garage, rockabilly, ska and other "youth" based musical acts are highly encouraged to submit. Music Nova Scotia will be accepting applications until January 5th, 2011 at 5pm.

SPINCOUNT Featured Artist of the Week
DWIGHT D'EON

There's nothing predictable about DWIGHT DEON. Dwight's powerful voice and hard driving rock and roll sound explode from the speakers and continuously surprise and reward the listener. Anthems for the Restless is an unforgettable collection of songs that is the culmination of a compelling personal and musical journey.

At the end of the summer of 2007, Dwight d'Eon had become a household name to millions of people across Canada. The top 4 finalist on CTV's Canadian Idol had reached a high point in his musical career and proven his worth against thousands of other young singers to secure his rank amongst the alumni of Idol's elite.

He regrouped with his former band mates: Aran Hill (bass), Q(drums) and Adam Driscoll (violin), and moved into Sound Market Studios in Halifax. They began the initial tracking for Anthems for the Restless in December of 2007. D'Eon, a graduate of the recording arts program, undertook engineering, mixing and producing the album, assisted by Terry Pulliam (Sloan, Buck 65) acting as co-producer.
